... the blog:

to all my moms…

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Moms are where we trust and store our hurts and fears, our dreams and our hopes of accomplishment, and in this place we can know these things to be held safe and precious. They hold us close, kiss the boo-boos, listen to our prayers, teach us the difference between grace and mercy, and are able to superglue anything back together with great efficiency that which we were asked not to touch in the first place.

Here are a collection of some of my favorite quotes, and images that define that kind of sacrificial love…

” A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie, for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.” ~Tenneve Jordan

“All mothers are working mothers.” ~author unknown

“Sweater, n: garment worn by a child when its mother is feeling chilly.” ~Abrose Bierce

“Mothering is like being pecked to death by chickens” ~ Tracey Koos

“All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That is his.”  ~Oscar Wilde

“Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”  ~Elizabeth Stone

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed.”  ~Proverbs 31:28

“I cannot forget my mother. She is my bridge. When I needed to get across, she steadied herself long enough for me to run across safely.”  ~ Renita Weems

“When I was a child, my mother said to me “If you become a soldier, you will be a general. If you become a monk, you will end up as the Pope.” Instead I became a painter, and wound up as Picasso.”         ~Pablo Picasso

May you know now how much your mom loves you long before you explore the attic or basement full of the precious items she kept that remind her of you. Hidden are the photographs taken, fingerpainted art, baby shoes, handmade chipped pottery, construction paper Valentine’s Day hearts and report cards from every school year…these are her treasures.  She is ours.

and speaking of our treasures…”Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ~ Matthew 6:21

“my gift is how I see life …my art is telling your story”

Love the photo of the elderly lady in black, corsage on suit. Timeless beauty in those facial lines . . . what a story is seen there. . . what a life lived there!
